Deryck Whibley Hospitalized

UPDATE: Deryck has been discharged from hospital! Great news!

Original story:

Deryck Whibley, frontman of Canadian pop-punk band Sum 41, has been hospitalized with pneumonia. Whibley’s wife Ari posted on Instagram letting fans know the news. According to the post, Deryck will be spending the next few days in hospital recovering.

In the post, Derrick’s wife Ari shared, “The scariest part is that there is a lot of strain on his heart and they are telling us that there is a possibility of heart failure. This is obviously not our first time in a situation like this but it brings back a lot of really difficult memories seeing him back in a hospital bed connected to wires and IVs.”

Back in 2014, Deryck was hospitalized as a result of his alcoholism. Placed in the ICU and sedated for a week, Deryck said the experience scared him straight. He eventually regained his strength and got back to doing what he does best; releasing bangers with Sum 41.

Earlier this year, though, Sum 41 announced they would be calling it quits after releasing one more album, Heaven :x: Hell, and one more tour. I’ve been a fan of these guys for a long time and it’s definitely a bummer to see them wrapping it up.

Here’s wishing Deryck a full recovery and the best of luck to the band in their future endeavors.
